Cheap and tacky!, October 9, 2010

Initially, I was really excited about this costume. I LOVED the dress Mia Wasikowska wore in the film, so I was ridiculously excited to see such a similar costume. It really looked like her dress.

When I got it, I was so excited. It looked great online. However, when I tried it on it was, shall we say, not even close to what I thought it would look like. Sure, the design is the same, but it was so ridiculous looking! Very very cheap and you could even call it tacky. I was really surprised. It can’t have cost them more than $10 to mass produce, and it really looks like it. The material is cheap, it was packaged poorly, and it just looked ridiculous. The petticoat they supply isn’t a petticoat at all. It’s actually just some fabric that reminded me of the cheap throwaway dressing gowns when I go to the OB/GYN. Made of practically the same stuff-easily ripable and NOT a petticoat. It didn’t add any fullness to the dress whatsoever. The fit was awkward as well. I’m a size 6 so I picked a small and it fit everywhere but my arms, where it was super uncomfy. The awkward part was the petticoat- it’s elasticized in the back but not in the front, and it was HUGE on me. I don’t know how I could’ve kept it up. There was a hole in the bottom tier and some extra ink where it didn’t belong from the pattern they put on the dress. Cheap central!

Needless to say, I didn’t keep it. What a waste of money! Thank goodness I got mine back or I would’ve been really mad.

This is a horrible costume! The fit is all wrong, misshapen and unflattering. The fabric is awful, very thin and very cheap. I can’t think of one thing I like about this costume. If I could give is zero stars I would!

This costume was bought for a beautiful thirteen year old that loves to look both gorgeous and hip without compromise of the two while still being comfortable. This costume is really pretty. The costume is made with a couple of layers and a few different types of fabric. The skirt is made of two layers: The bottom layer of material is a thin satin-like fabric which is soft and semi-sheer, and the top over-lay is a soft-to-the-touch sheer organza material. The bodice is made of two layers and three different fabrics: The bottom layer and over-lay fabric are the same as the skirt, but the back of the bodice is made of a stretchy fabric with a couple of velcro dots at the top to close. The sleeves have a couple pieces of lace sewn on them, which is pretty too. The petticoat is not sewn to the skirt and is a half-slip that is packaged with the costume. The petticoat is a bit strange as it is made from a large, cheap fabric-like material that is white. You could always use a different petticoat with this costume if you don’t like it. The bodice is fitted in the front, but the back of the costume has an elastic half-waist. The the back of the costume has some give to the fit with the stretchy material and elastic. The organza top layer of the costume on the skirt has much more material than the bottom layer of satin-like material, so the extra gathering of material at the waist does add a slight couple of inches of bulk to the lower stomach area. The costume is not too low-cut and has about a one-inch piece of the sheer organza fabric sewn between the bodice and off-white ribbon trim outlining the neckline, which is a a nice detail. Overall, the costume seems to be sewn okay, nice fabric, and really pretty. I would recommend this costume.

I’m 5’3″ and this costume fit me good in most places but it was really baggy in the crotch which was really annoying. For the most part it was good though. The mask fit weird so I did not wear that which kind of took away from the costume.
